I got through 3 episodes, and I can honestly say this is the worst acting I've ever seen, I'm not talking Agatha Raisin hamminess, I'm talking Valerian and Thousand Planets. I understand that film technology and hair dye have improved since this was filmed, but what excuse is there for the rest of it? Also, watching a 35 year old actress play with dolls makes me feel dirty. The horses are beautiful.

Because the series format provides the time, this version includes a great deal of the novel. The actors are splendid, all around, with Prince Andrei being the only weak link -- and that is really a question of physical appearance. -- and his father Prince Bolkonsky is a bit too over the top. But Princess Mary and Sonia are especially well done. And of course you have Anthony Hopkins as Pierre. After over forty years there is no question but that this version has stood the test of time. Well worth the investment in viewing time.
