Ten Lies They Spread About Christianity

Michael Coren explores why and how Christians and Christian ideas are caricatured in popular media as well as in sophisticated society. He takes on, and debunks, ten great myths about Christianity: that it supports slavery, is racist, sexist, homophobic, anti-intellectual, anti-Semitic, provokes war, resists progress, and is repressive and irrelevant. In a climate that is increasingly as ignorant of Christianity as it is good at condemning it, Coren gives historical background, provides examples of how these attacks are made, and explains the reality of Christian beliefs.

This book is an absolute monstrosity of hypocrisy, xenophobia, poor argumentation and bigotry. Coren is painfully oblivious to the irony in claiming that calling mass murderers Christians when they aren't is wrong because of Christianity's peaceful core, while further stating that the entire Islamic religion is based around violence and terror, ready for war on Christians. This ignoramus also has the audacity to say--MULTIPLE TIMES--that Christians are "the most discriminated against and hated group in the world". I will give him that Hitler wasn't a Christian (he wasn't), and that the Da Vinci Code is a load of nonsense. Every other point is poorly defended to the point that Coren is confirming these biases, and I even consulted my Catholic-raised friend to make sure that I wasn't being unfair. I wasn't.

An excellent book that clearly outlines the problems facing Christians in the modern world. It clarifies the lies told and the reasons used for the systematic persecution against 216 million Christians worldwide.

An excellent book to dispel the lies, myths and the misconceptions many spread and too many, it seems, blindly embrace.

There really are Christians who really represent every one of the "myths" Cohen names. He may declare that they are not "real Christians" but according to them, they are the real Christians and he isn't. An obedient Catholic will of course affirm that there is one and only one set of "authentic Christian beliefs." In reality, there are not. There are more Christianities than there are Christians, because some people occasionally change their minds.
