I am starting my third week of this diet and have lost 7 pounds so far. I really appreciate the variety of permissible foods the three phases give me. I find the low fat phase 2 the hardest as one eats only meat and veggies but it is only for 2 days, unlike the Atkins diet. I know I can eat grains and fruit again during the other 2 phases. Super information in this book. I have ordered it in paperback online and using HPL copies while I wait. I will post an updated review in a month or two as I intend to stay on this healthy diet for a long time. N.B. I don't find going without sugar hard because of the fruit, though I anticipated grumpy withdrawal which I had experienced in the past. Eating to phase leads to a lot of checking food lists and specific food shopping but it is worth it.

All these people saying the diet is complicated. No it is not!

It's a different way of eating. Most of you use recipes and have to follow those instructions. We have gotten it bodies out of kilter for one reason or another so it will take following some instructions to get back into shape. Right?

Little measuring of foods, not the same diet for more than 3 days and it works.

Great information but not at all vegetarian or vegan friendly. Very much worth the read but not necessarily worth the diet plan.

There is a whole section on the evils of soy but instead of giving an alternative plant protein for the plant based dieters, Haylie tells the readers to use tofu, edamame, and tempeh (all soy products)!!! Or eat eggs! The same goes for her cookbook, app, and supplemental "vegetarian" PDF. I've even contacted the author & her staff but there is no support.

The plan itself is incredibly complex but once you get the hang of it, it is a great way to eat. It just takes some real effort.

Incredibly disappointing overall.

I've tried all sorts of diets including just 'eating right' with no luck. This diet is certainly working for me so I'm quite ok with the complexity. And eating throughout the day is comfortable since I'm never hungry. Yes, I crave something rich and sweet - but that's why I'm on the diet in the first place. I miss my wine but I'm still drinking 1 cup of coffee in the morning since there are some things I can't/won't give up. It's only 28 days.

Thank you so much to all of you for your feedback. I was going to buy this book, but was wary of such a complicated plan. I want to spend LESS time thinking about food and being in the kitchen, not more. This FM diet sounds way too complicated to sustain, not what I was looking for.

A diet plan that claims you can lose up to 20 pounds in 4 weeks. Each week is divided into 3 phases, then you repeat those 3 phases for each of the 4 weeks. There is no sugar, natural or unnatural, included in this diet, no caffeine, no alcohol, no wheat products. In phase 1 you can have protein, fruit, vegetables and certain grains, but no oils. Phase 2 is limited to protein and vegetables. So, no grain, no fruit, no oil. In phase 3 you can have all of food groups as well as oil. Each phase has different exercises included in the also. I'm almost done my 3rd week of it and have found it somewhat challenging particularly since I love my carbs. I'm really disliking phase 2 and struggle to get through it. I can say that the diet does work, I have lost 10 lbs so far. At this point in time, I can't say that I would do this one again after the 4 weeks is up. I really miss my sweets, even if it's just a cookie as well as that glass of wine or beer once in a while.

I went on this diet because it was recommended to me by a friend who was losing weight. It is very complex and it takes over you life because you must eat approx. every 3 hours and you must plan ahead to have approved foods on hand and ready for each phase. The idea is that your metabolism needs to be always burning something so you have to get used to watching the clock and packing egg whites or something in your purse if you are going out. I tried this diet and lost 19 lbs- all of which I almost immediately gained back when I stopped the diet after the 28 day period. I would recommed tried and true calorie counting instead.

I browsed through this book to get a feel for how rigid and therefore practical it would be for the busy lifestyle I lead, and I agree with the verbose comment below: too complicated to follow. However I did gain valuable knowledge from her explanations regarding her methodology and it has offered inspiration for some healthy lifestyle changes. I now drink way more water, I've cut down caffeine and refined sugar and eat healthier snacks more frequently. I do feel more energetic and my clothes are fitting better . And her recipes are delicious! Take from it what you will.
