Have not seen this movie in several years...Not aged real well...Enjoy all the actors, and love seeing parts of SF before the Lona Prieta quake. What ever happened to Brooke Adams, Donald S.s love interest?

Still a good movie, a bit scary and love the ending. If your curious, see it, won't be disappointed.

There are lots of details in this film which add to it's effectiveness to set the tone. Although the look is dated (it was filmed in 1978) it feels contemporary.

There are 4 or 5 remakes of " Body Snatchers " out there, and I think this one ranks near the top- a classic sci-fi film.

This is the 1978 version and the characters have changed significantly so it really doesn't resemble the novel much. They added a part in the beginning that shows the spores on another planet floating in the air down to Earth and blooming into those little plants that become "pod people". There's also a very well-done special effects scene about an hour in with Donald Sutherland asleep and several pod people growing in his flower bed. Still scary. The story takes place in San Francisco, so if you're from the Bay Area you'll find the background interesting since it's changed significantly since 1978. I couldn't watch the whole thing. I was hoping it stuck to the novel, but it varied just too much.

Well, darlings - With actor Donald Sutherland being in this one, that almost ruined it for me.

Released in 1978 - This is only a marginally chilling remake of the 1956 classic, with a number of new twists and turns thrown into its story.

And, unfortunately the whole premiss quickly runs out of steam as it tries to offer the viewer one climax too many.

This disc is damaged such that the end of the movie can't be viewed.

- quite a bummer.

CONTAINS SPOILER ALERTS!!Invasion of the Body Snatchers is a film that has stayed with me over the years. The 1978 version starring my favorite actor of all time, Mr Donald Sutherland, was the most haunting of the versions I have seen. The incredible rendition of Amazing Grace closer to the end of the film always brings me to tears. And so appropriate considering Donald Sutherland is of Celtic descent (go figure, eh?) I adore Leonard Nimoy of course (I am an Original Trekkie) but out of the two of them; Donald Sutherland's character, Matthew, had more of an impact on me. And I love the subtle love story between Matthew (Donald Sutherland) and Elizabeth (Brooke Adams)!! Its so beautiful when they finally tell each other that they love each other!! This film has stayed with me for a few reasons. Not being a fan of horror, I was able to watch this movie without wanting to take a shower afterwards. The gore was there but was for the most part kept to a minimum; which I greatly appreciated considering so many horrors are a blood bath. And of course the idea that when we are most vulnerable is when these disgusting beings come after you is very frightening. Many a night I have found myself fighting off sleep from the subconscious fear that arises after watching this movie. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who wants to watch a Donald Sutherland film or who just simply who, like me, was curious what was the hype about the story behind this cult classic.

I own both versions, the original with a dvd of the kevin mccarthy one and the dvd and vhs of the 1978 version with donald sutherland. I love both. Eash for different reasons, but the 1978 one I adore because of the music by donald stewart making it particularly scary, but in san francisco, where Im from, you get to see Powell and Market as it isn't anymore, including the Woolworth Building. I like all the actors, Sutherland my favorite way back from his Fellini movie, his acting is glorious, in this invasion version, Veronica is a sweetheart in this one, Goldblum you feel sorry for, and its frightening when he turns, Nemoy actually scared the heck out of me just being in a normal role and we wont even mention what happens to him, and Brooke , well, you just have to see this. Its 5 stars from me. and I watch this constantly. Thanks.
