For eight years, the old dogs of the Unsolved Crime and Open Case Squad--veteran detectives Jack Halford (James Bolam, The Beiderbecke Affair), Brian Lane (Alun Armstrong, Garrow's Law), and Gerry Standing (Dennis Waterman, The Sweeney)--have been a close-knit team. Led by Detective Superintendent Sandra Pullman (Amanda Redman, Sexy Beast)their beautiful, younger boss, they have solved cold cases with classic policing skills and easy camaraderie. Before long, Sandra finds a replacement in retired detective Steve McAndrew. A chatty, enthusiastic Scot, Steve treads on toes but gives the hit British series a "charm injection."

Loved this series in the past. It was a dramedy based on character development. They've completely switched the show to a drama and it doesn't quite make the grade. Don't like the new Scottish character. They're trying to pretend like he's a tough guy but I guess he's over 65 and not largely muscular. Talks tough and is not believable. Big disappointment. The chemistry among the cast is gone. First eight seasons were good!

Always worrisome when someone is replaced on a show with great chemistry between the characters, but felt that Steve McAndrew fit in well and the show is as good as ever.

I just finished season nine and thought this was one of the best. They took some risks with the plots and characters - more serious and complex. I understand that there are two more seasons but not sure if ORL has them.
