Former Sweathog Gabe Kotter returns to his alma mater, Brooklyn's James Buchanan High School to teach a new generation of Sweathogs, a group of supposedly unteachable, under-achieving and incorrigible students. They are: Vinnie Barbarino, the group's wise-cracking leader; Juan Epstein, a Puerto Rican Jew; dimwitted Arnold Horshack; and cool Freddie "Boom-Boom" Washington. Gabe tries to reach out to these students by relating his own experiences to the students, but is often hindered in his efforts by cantankerous vice-principal, Michael Woodman.

Hello!?? Since when was high school ever like this? Eh? When?

And, when it comes to taking a serious reality check - Can you accept the plausibility of a classroom of less than 20 students in an inner city, New York high school? I can't.

I viewed the "Sweathogs" (with their severe learning deficiencies) as all being potential dropouts, total losers, and utter failures.

And, speaking about actor, John Travolta playing the Barbarino character - At 20 years of age he was clearly way too old to be at all convincing playing the part of a 15-year-old punk.

And, finally - When it came to this TV show's writer/creator, Gabriel Kaplan - As the "Mr. Kotter" character - His tedious wisecracking "Groucho Marx" shtick got real tiresome - Real fast.

I was a little too young to watch this tv series in the 70's but I really enjoyed it. The actors who play the students are hilarious, including a young John Travolta.
