Add a CommentA place called freedom is an important book. We often think of slavery in terms of African people, but this story tells us about the crofters of Scotland and how they were enslaved. It is a fascinating and well written book by a great author. It is right up there with Pillars of the Earth and is certainly "meaty" enough. Not as detailed as Pillars, but just as good.
Quick read. I was hoping for more. I love Pillars of the Earth and World Without End. There is not much meat to this story. Pretty typical repressed person seeking to break the accepted social norms and become more than what is expected of him. Dialogue was disappointing. Scots don't speak like Brits.
