It’s 1982. Overcome with obsessive thoughts about Ewoks, George Lucas teams up with John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd in order to write the next and final instalment of his film trilogy: Star Wars - Episode VI - Blues Brothers in Space. That's what this film feels like, but even more super awesome than that could possibly be.
[Guardians of the Galaxy], directed by James Gunn and written by Gunn and Nicole Perlman, is the sleeper hit of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It's a space-western-heist film with wallpaper drawn from memories of one's favourite '70s and '80s comic books and sci-fi fantasy films. The film made the "Guardians of the Galaxy" a thing, a trash-talking raccoon a reality, and the nom de guerre "Star Lord" know by all, far and wide. No longer would Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) saunter into a dusty nondescript cantina at the fringes of the galaxy in fruitless and desperate search of street cred to parley for a five credit discount on a half-reheated meal.
Like [The Winter Soldier], this film helped to usher in a new kind of MCU film, a film that was aware of itself in the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, that basked in that universe, and that showed us extraterrestrial civilizations with a fresh verisimilitude the likes audiences haven’t seen since probably the original [Star Wars].
Furthermore, I enjoyed how [Guardians of the Galaxy] avoided the fatal flaw of Joss Whedon's [Firefly] and this paraphrased quotation from a source I no longer remember: If all the main characters are Han Solo, then none of the characters are Han Solo. The character of Han Solo is cool because he's unique. He did the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs, though a parsec is a unit of distance and not time. Thus his feat was even more impressive. What Gunn and Perlman have done here were to give us unique and memorable characters.

This movie is easily one of my favorite Marvel movies to date. It's funny, quirky, and just all around enjoyable in a way that a lot of Marvel movies haven't been up until now. Peter Quill is a great character that doesn't come off as flat and boring. Drax is easily the best member of the crew, being hilarious despite how 'serious' of a character he is. An excellent movie that sets the tone for future Marvel movies.

I liked this fiction adventure DVD. The brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand-with the galaxy's fate in the balance. They are all used to working alone. Together they stay alive and protected. They shape a bond you only feel with a family. All their crimes are forgiven by the authorities. They officially become the guardian of the galaxy. It is too violent for kids.

I have never been a fan of the Marvel Comics universe (I actually walked out of "Iron Man") but James Gunn has scored a major coup with this slap-happy amalgam of CGI wizardry, adult humour, and whizz-bang pyrotechnics. Teeming with geeky in-jokes (Howard the Duck makes a cameo!) and a supercool soundtrack of retro hits ranging from Glen Campbell to Ziggy Stardust, Gunn’s manic energy splashes the screen with so much comic mayhem that I found myself smiling without even knowing why. And that cast (both flesh and graphics) produces a synergy seldom seen in the movies. A little bit of "Star Wars", a dash of "Raiders of the Lost Ark", and a touch or two of "Lara Croft" all make for one hugely entertaining—and very funny—space opera.

This movie is really dumb and horrible. First of there are no morals what so ever, and it's the most annoying movie you could ever watch. I don't recommend it.

Call me sentimental, but Rocket and Groot's friendship may be what I'll remember most about this movie.

Well, on my planet, there's a legend about people like you. It's called Footloose. And in it, a great hero, named Kevin Bacon, teaches an entire city full of people with sticks up their butts that, dancing, well, it's the greatest thing there is."
