Oldman gives a towering performance as Churchill. What an actor!

One of my favorite movies that I watched this year. As with the best actors and actresses, Gary Oldman and Lily James are magnetic. Their times together onscreen are a joy. This is a truly inspirational portrait of Churchill.

Wonderful acting by Gary Oldman, a very personal characterization of Winston Churchill...he defiantly deserved the Academy Award for The Best Male Actor....the script and other actors are excellent...very enjoyable movie..

Watched this twice (once on DVD, streamed it second time), and found it inspirational and compelling to watch. It brings to life Churchill's speech of "Blood, Soil, Tears", and the last speech one about continuing the fight. It would be interesting as a cinematic marathon, to view this movie, pause it, then watch Dunkirk (2017), then go back to this movie in the middle of the second act. However, it lost points for historical accuracy, including the fact that Winston Churchill wasn't exactly a saint himself and believed in social Darwinism. He caused millions in India to starve to death and didn't care that Australian Black Aboriginals were wiped out because they were inferior. If you actually do the research, it would seem Britian got a taste of its own medicine during WW2 which accounts for so many losses and seeing this once great empire almost surrendering to Hitler. It is this historical inaccuracies, added to the fact that Winston didn't actually use the subway to get the common folk's opinion, this is more like a fiction. What it did well, however, was capture the spirit of the moment and made it come alive and as a movie it did well. I wanted to stand up and clap along with the other members of parliament at the last speech. I would like to see it again probably around Remembrance Day Month, or just to see something nice and inspirational again at some point in the future.

Kristen Scott-Thomas was good as Churchill's wife clemmie.Hats off then on again to Gary Oldman. He is the best Churchill ever, absolutely amazing!!Especially during the worst time in England's history during WW II,this movie was just during a 5 week period.Churchill was only prime minister for that same amount of time as the events occured. If not for him and his belief in the English people they would have lost their country to Nazism.Great movie, highly recommend for everyone!!

Gary Oldman is excellent. He is such a versatile actor who has finally been given the credit that he deserves when he was honored with the Best Actor Oscar for this film. I was more informed regarding these events because of the Darkest Hour and the movie Dunkirk.
