Dr. Kay Scarpetta is working a suspicious death scene in Cambridge, Massachusetts when an emergency alert sounds on her phone. A video link lands in her text messages and seems to be from her computer genius niece Lucy. But how can it be? It's clearly a surveillance film of Lucy taken almost twenty years ago. That film clip and then others sent soon after raise dangerous legal implications that increasingly isolate Scarpetta and leave her confused, worried, and not knowing where to turn. She doesn't know whom she can tell, not her FBI husband Benton Wesley or her investigative partner Pete Marino. Not even Lucy.

very boring, way too long, probably won't try any more of hers. Not worth the effort it takes to wade through hundreds of pages.

Not at all impressed. Long, drawn out and very vague. Even the ending really doesn't make any point. Would not recommend. Certainly not one of Cornwell's better efforts.

This story could have been told in about 300 pages instead of the dreary 500+ and the ending was really obscure. I've read many of her older books and the later ones just seem like she's Streeeetching it out to fill pages. Too bad. I'll move on to a new author.

This series of books is 27 years old! I missed a few of the series but can say it has grown stale. Old characters from the past, old love triangles.....yet nothing new. If she wants to revive this series she should put Scarpetta with the man who really loves her--Marino. Benton is tiresome and boring and put his job over his wife. The earlier novels focused more on the forensic side of things as well. The end was weird and horrific and of COURSE left with lots of loose ends so she can write another. I better refrain from commenting on the loose morality of the characters...I mean this woman wrote the biography of Billy Graham's wife and I thought her to be a Christian author at first.

Not up to her standard.

I sadly have to agree with other readers who found this book disappointing. We get it, the main character is evil, but did we need to read it all 500 plus pages. The ending didn't explain much and you were left to just figure out most of it on your own. I would not recommend this book to someone never reading her Kay Scarpetta series, since most of it centers on past characters. As a longtime fan of Patricia Cornwell, her last several novels have not had the same page turning effect for me and not sure I want to invest anymore time in reading this series.

Not one of her best - had to have read & be familiar with most of her characters to wade through this boring book.

Disappointing, long and not as wxciting as her earlier work. The Lucy and Aunt Kay story line is getting old and stale.

The ending is so bad in this book its almost as if the publisher said to the author, sorry max n pages and cut it short to fit it in.

I re-read the (second) last chapter and I still don't know how it ended. Was it solved?
