"A rare, jaw-dropping glimpse of everyday life in the North Korean capital of Pyongyang: Zin-Mi is an adorable 8-year-old girl, who, as she prepares to join the prestigious Children's Union, participates in colorful, joyous patriotic school pageants, eats delicious evening meals at her family's well-appointed apartment, and is doted on by her attractive parents who work in model factories that regularly exceed their production targets. Sounds too good to be true? Of course it is." -- Container.

Pretty incredible that North Korea has been run as an Orwellian prison since the end of WW2. How is this possible? By instilling mortal fear in all its inhabitants (including its top leaders), and by preventing almost any outside information from getting in.

Very intriguing film. No surprises on the "all hail our exalted leader" dialogue throughout - and really no issue with the "coaching" of film participants when the camera rolls AFTER the take (more clapping, smile, wrong answer try again) because everyone (Michael Moore) does it. The film is not created in the camera shoot but in the editing room - big difference. I like the background of the cities themselves, and the monuments and statues. It saves me a trip across the pond. The indoctrination is everywhere including the schools (I like the "all amerikans are cowards" lecture from the grade school teacher). The funny thing is that propaganda is a two way street - in N. Korea it is in your face. In North America, it bleeds in a subtle fashion through the TV. Go stand in Times Square NYC and shout "9/11 is an inside job" - 'nuff said.
