Three couples meet around the pool of their Florida holiday home and become fast friends. But on their last night, their perfect holiday takes a tragic twist: the teenage daughter of another holidaymaker goes missing, and her body is later found floating in the mangroves. Then, a second girl goes missing. Could it be that one of these six has a secret far darker than anybody can imagine? A brilliantly plotted, utterly gripping thriller about the danger of making friends on holiday.

Stand Alone #2

Beautifully developed characters, across the board.

Delicious unfolding of plot.

Rush of Blood is called a “novel” on the cover, and indeed the quality of writing and depth of characterization is novel-worthy.

It could as well have been labeled a “thriller” or “psychological thriller.”

One quibble: The editors at Little Brown (or Atlantic Monthly) should have picked up on several Britishisms spoken by Americans; for example, the Sarasota (Florida) cop who says “I might have done” instead of “I might have.”

The book is mediocre at best. Nothing wrong with the writing but the plot simply was not enough to carry the book. All the little twists and turns at the end felt more like a desperate attempt to leave readers thinking the book was better than it really was

Great read and a great twist.

Once again Billingham has written a masterfully crafted mystery. The characters are spot on and written in the classic whodunit prose that leaves the reader believing that almost any of them could be the culprit. Without a doubt, it is the fascinating way in which the six main characters interact that drives this story and leaves you turning pages until the very end!

A great stand-alone mystery by one of my all-time favourite authors. A very well-plotted thriller that outlines the dangers of making friends on holiday.

A departure for Billingham and not a good one. Contrived and amateurish.

This was o.k but not as good as the Tom Thorne series and if you have never read this author try the Thorne stories.
