I couldn't believe my luck when we found this book. First, it's about dessert, which we all love. Second, it's about ghosts, which my seven year old son loves. Third, one of the two main characters is a woman of color, and we're always looking for diverse books. And finally, the most important thing? It's REALLY GOOD.

The story is beautifully told. After town baker Cora Lee Merriweather dies, no one can stay in business for more than a few days in her now-haunted bake shop... until Annie Washington arrives. Having left her pastry chef job on a cruise ship for dry land, Annie is determined to crack the secret that will get Miss Merriweather's ghost out of her kitchen for good.

Or does Miss Merriweather really need to leave?

Ogburn and Priceman do a lovely job together on this. It's a longer read than some picture books, but well worth it.
