"In the days leading up to her wedding to Darcy O'Mara, Lady Georgiana Rannoch takes on the responsibilities of a grand estate, but proving she can run a household just may be the death of her... If only Darcy and I had eloped! What I thought would be a simple wedding has been transformed into a grand affair, thanks to the attendance of the queen, who has offered up the princesses as bridesmaids. Silly me! I thought that withdrawing from the royal line of succession would simplify my life. But before Darcy and I tie the knot in front of queen and country, we have to find a place to live as man and wife... House hunting turns out to be a pretty grim affair. Just as we start to lose hope, my globetrotting godfather offers us his fully staffed country estate. Mistress of Eynsleigh I shall be! With Darcy off in parts unknown, I head to Eynsleigh alone, only to have my hopes dashed. The grounds are in disarray and the small staff is suspiciously incompetent. Not to mention the gas tap leak in my bedroom, which I can only imagine was an attempt on my life. Something rotten is afoot--and bringing the place up to snuff may put me six feet under before I even get a chance to walk down the aisle.."--

‚ÄčThis series is extremely silly, and yet I love it, and will never stop reading it, so. This installment sees -- FINALLY -- Darcy & Georgie's wedding, which of course does not go off without a spot of murder, as you'd expect. I don't know that this was my favorite book in the series, but I'm very much looking forward to seeing how Georgie adjusts to married life in the next one!

This series is very inconsistent but I still read it to the end because I like the main characters and want to find out how they manage. Georgina has always been short of money and depended upon her friends and relatives to help her keep body and soul together and she was appealing because of that in spite of being royalty. In this installment she is a bit tiresome because she becomes the" lady of the manor" having inherited a house with servants who are not what they seem, a fact that is very evident to me from the beginning but not to her, so the mystery was really when she was going to figure it out. Also, there were some pet parrots that were used to draw out the bad guys at the end and then they were just left out in the woods to an unknown fate. All in all I would have lost interest fast except it was part of a series. As for Darcy, he was pretty much missing as usual and since his job keeps him out of town but at a destination unknown how long could Georgie tolerate not knowing where he was and what he was doing?

Another delightful entry in this charming series. I love this fun, light series because of the characters, humour and the setting. These books are set in the 1930's and while the stories and main characters are fictional, but the series is peppered with references to actual historical events and real-life characters pop up as minor characters. I love Lady Georgiana and it was lovely in this book to see her becoming a bit more confident. All of the usual supporting characters appear, including Queenie, Belinda, Fig, Binky, Darcy, and her mother, Claire. The mystery in this book is very slight. I enjoy this series very much and fans of Downton Abbey might also enjoy this light, period romp, but if you are looking for a good, twisty, thought-provoking mystery then this book won't be satisfactory. I like these fun, sparkling books very much and I'm looking forward to the next one.

A delightful series. Author Bowen is an excellent writer. Recommended for those who like light period mysteries (between World War I and II), English characters, and royalty.
