It is set in Switzerland in 1971 where, despite the worldwide social upheavals of the previous decade, women, were still denied the right to vote. When unassuming and dutiful housewife Nora is forbidden by her husband to take a part-time job, her frustration leads to her becoming the poster child of her town's suffragette movement. Her newfound celebrity brings humiliation, threats, and the potential end to her marriage.

It's hard to see this because my grandfather is Swiss and really does resemble the grandfather in the film. I really think Nora's character could've been better, if not more consistent, but it makes sense given the push "back and forth" thing. It's not the most fun thing to watch, but the premise is just too good to pass up. It has its moments, and Hans is my favorite character.

in 1971 a group of women, and men, march across a bridge in Zurich chanting the slogan "women's rights are human rights".
in an insular canton in Switzerland women begin to awaken to personal freedom and their own sexuality. some minds open and others clamp shut.
a great scene of men going to vote on whether women should be allowed to vote
