This book is about Patience, her faith, her devotion to her unborn child, her experiences during Boko Haram invasions and prison camps and the unimaginable conditions of life in northern Africa. The author intersperses chapters of her experience in northern Africa which at first I found off-putting but found those chapters to be a relief from the details of the brutality in Patience's story. Those chapters also provided additional insight on the history and multiple cultures of the area. At times the book can be intense, but this is the sad reality for thousands of people. I learned quickly not to read the book just prior to bedtime! At the completion of the book I felt a bit helpless in my ability to help the situation, though the author does reference an organization set up to help these widowed and homeless refugee women as well as some progress being made politically. There is still quite a ways to go. I highly recommend this eye-opening book; however, it is not for the faint of heart.
