Well-meaning and (be forewarned) violent attempt at documenting Nigeria's civil war, where warring tribes used machetes along with guns to advance their leader. Bruce Willis plays a war-weary soldier who--after evacuating the staff from the American embassy--inexplicably turns back to assist a doctor's adopted tribe, whom she refuses to leave behind.

I like seeing movies that deal with issues you don't always hear about in the news. It's a good way to generate awareness about the real issue at hand.

Some action but story is really weak.

Not a bad movie. The story line is a little weak. The characters could have been more rounded in that there is no depth to the characters. Bruce Willis' character 'does the right thing'. We are not exactly sure what his motives are in going against orders, but he needs to do the right thing. Bruce Willis' troup are moving a group of refugees out of their war torn country to safety in the neighbouring African country followed in hot pursuit by the rebel troups. In an air lift all those unable bodied refugees are airlifted out and the able bodied refugees continue their escape - making the story line a lot easier to present. Lots of violence and war fare with a subtle romantic thread through it all.

Violence: Misogyny: a nursing woman's breasts are cut off so she can't nurture the next generation; women are raped; peaceful priests and nuns are macheted; soldiers and civilians on both sides are violently killed.
