Comment
Add a CommentI laughed and cried just as I did in the late 70's when I watched the original. I strongly recommend this film. I unlike other commentators did NOT get a sense of entitlement at all. I believe that this historical mini series based on Alex Haley's book of the same name should be standard viewing material in all High schools and maybe even younger.
Remake of Hailey's novel with a slightly expanded story line. The movie is on two dvds, but a third is added as an explanation of how the current black community has become entitled to be angry and expect social and economic justice. I would not recommend the third unless you are into the entitlement mentality.
Covers a lot of ground in four longish episodes (did not watch the specials on disk three). Very well done all-around. A bit dry/sterile; didn't have the same level of emotional engagement with this series as with the original "Roots," but solid depiction of a shameful time in America.
