In the nursery the Velveteen Rabbit and the Skin Horse talk about how a toy becomes real. A few days later, Velveteen Rabbit finds himself tucked into bed with a little boy and the two soon become inseparable. This is an extraordinary story about love and the value it can invest in the people and things around you.

This picture book is very exciding, but I have read this book 10 times and every time I cry because of the scene when the velveteen rabbit has to get thrown away, but in the end it gets resolved.

I read this to my 8 year old. There were pictures and he was able to follow along with the story.

No illustrations. A complete travesty for this book. The story is great, though.

" "Real isn't how you are made," said the skin horse. "It's a thing that happens to you...it doesn't happen all at once. You become. It takes a long time. Generally by the time you are Real, most of your fur has been loved off, and your eyes drop out, and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these don't matter at all because once you are Real you can't be ugly except to people who don't understand." "
