Passive or hot? What goes into it? How long does it take? These and other questions are answered by motivational composting expert Ken Thompson.

This is an informative book for the beginner. Thompson demystifies the process of composting and is very clear about his own biases and reasons for them, leaving it to the reader to make his/her own decisions.

Highly recommended for anyone interested in this topic.

Clearly written, this is an easy read that can be finished in one night. The author provides all the basic information to start composting, and also serves as a great reference.

Composting guru Ken Thompson shares his expertise in COMPOST: THE NATURAL WAY TO MAKE FOOD FOR YOUR GARDEN (DK Publishing, $24.95). Great source for the beginner composter, intermediate, and - yes- there are even tips for the expert. Even if you aren't gardening (but who's not these days?), COMPOST lays out the fascinating science of decomposition.
