While it's fun to see some backstory on a few main characters of the Fables series like Snow White and Flycatcher, the stories aren't all that special. What makes this volume stand out is the art. Every story is presented by a different artist and each vision is beautiful and unique.

I love the art, and it's inspirational for me as an art student with an interest in concept art and illustration. I love the use of colour and shading to create atmosphere. The stories are also very tight in themselves but relate together in a narrative. I love the way each subplot is presented, as a separate section or chapter. I also love interplay between the prose and comic style used to express the narrative.

A beautiful book in both its art and writing. Can be read apart from the Fables series and it will still make sense but its best to read the whole series.

This is a collection of fairy tales told by Snow White, captive in a "far-off demon-haunted land of magnificent jeweled cities" by the reigning Sultan. Overall, it's a great book in the Fables tradition for graphic novel fans and fairy tale enthusiasts alike. Heads up -- there is a pretty horrifying rape scene in the adaptation of the frog prince.

From an art and plot standpoint this graphic novel is superb.

Sexual Content: From Library Journal review: "All story arcs and tales in this series are inventive, edgy, sometimes amusing, and--with nudity, sexual subthemes, and strong language--distinctly not for children. For example, the Seven Dwarves are revealed as rapist goblins, not Disney darlings, and Snow takes her bloody revenge." And check the middle of the Publishers Weekly's review.

"You are a most troublesome woman!" he said, after only minimal introductory courtesies were observed.
