Sara Crewe's (Shirley Temple) widowed father is sent to the Boer War. Little Sara is sent to a boarding school in Victorian England. This is expected to be a temporary situation until Sara's father returns from the war. When Crewe is reported killed in action the school's evil head mistress turns Sara into a scullery servant. Sara does not believe that her father is really dead. She suffers with dignity, looking for him in local hospitals, until he returns.

VERY GOOD 1939 movie with Shirley no longer a baby child actress. She was 11 and growing up - with even more developed acting skills, etc. - fun to watch.

Temple was such a doll! All her movies are adorable.

I'm not a big fan of Shirley Temple, but the movie is not bad.
One of the earlier full-feature Technicolor films.

This film was very good! And it was even edited to have color!
