Got sucked into this series by the first episode.. A "black-hearted villain" was the billing for Ian Richardson's lead character. "Yes, you may say that but, I can't comment" would be Francis Urqhardt's (played by Richardson) patented response with, maybe, the most evil smile of all time. This original House of Cards series from the mid-1990s is excellently written and acted...particularly in the the first and second set of 4 episodes. More than a half-dozen jaw dropping stunning moments are served up by Francis Urqhardt...not a man to have behind you... Lastly, be sure to check out the video (on the bonus features disc) about the British Parliament buildings by MP Tony Benn (1925 - 2014). Through a personal travelogue of the Palace of Westminster he explains how the British government functions while walking through entire building and its 700+ year history. A couple of interesting factoids: -there are remnants of French occupation of England, under William the Conqueror, in British parlimentary procedures (as of filming in 1995) -England was a republic...without a King/Queen...for 10 years...in 1650 - 1660. -While standing in front of a painting of the 1st Christian Crusades, Benn characterized them as the 1st Gulf War and how European arms dealers sold weapons to both sides - Christians and Muslims. -Mr. Ben predicts...in 1995...that with the fall of Communism, the next big war will be return to a war against Islam.
