Wow, what a molotov of a modern crime film! This is Free-Market Capitalism personified and Costa-Gavras pulls no punches with his latest statement on modern society. The main character is chosen by the ailing CEO of a French bank to ''temporarily'' succeed him; against the wishes of all the other power hungry players involved. Initially appearing as an environmentally positive, forward thinking radical. he is soon seduced by the ''Cowboy Capitalism'' of corrupt Wall-Street investment bankers. Eyes turned by an American Supermodel who just happens to be there when the seduction of corruption cards are played and before you can say '' Et tu -Brutus?'' the descent begins. And what a descent! Eventually there is no bottom to the levels of depravity where this ''maverick'' will sink. Yet anyone who follows the doings of our current parasitic financial overseers should really not be shocked. Costa-Gavras rarely disappoints, but for me this time he really ''upped-the-ante'' for this genre, even though I think for sheer veracity,- ''American Hustle'' tops this flic somewhat. Still, for thrilling entertainment with a dollop of political statement, this was definitely worth the time.
