Skull Throne is more action-packed than the previous three books in the Demon Cycle series. Each chapter had the plot flowing forward and there were several unexpected character dilemmas that occurred throughout this book. I liked this book far better than the previous three and I myself had several conflicting emotions arise in reaction to the actions of various characters. Leesha's moral compass is tested several times, Count Thamos's character evolves in a manner that shows significant maturity and growth that was unexpected in the beginning of the series, and Ammanvah and Sikvah's personalities continued to surprise throughout. Skull Throne focuses considerably on character evolution and how the impact of one's environment, the people they are surrounded by, and their internal beliefs can drastically change one for better or for worse in a matter of seconds.
