The Lake House deftly weaves two mysteries 70 years apart into a compelling story that is as much about British society between WW1 and WW2 as about the disappearance of a child. Flashbacks from multiple perspectives and different times draw the reader into the family life of the deShiels. Information, secrets, and passions are revealed gradually so that our theory about what happened keeps changing. Intricate plotting, well-drawn characters, and an evocative portrait of Cornwall in the 1930's make this book an enjoyable read.
