Kiss Me in New York by Catherine Rider was based on coincidences. Only two weeks ago, Charlotte suffered a breakup by a guy she met after being transferred to New York from Britain. It’s coincidental that on the day she was leaving for home, a man was being dumped by his girlfriend right in front of her eyes at JFK airport. It’s coincidental that they sat together on the same bench, and even more coincidental that they entered the same cab without knowing, and head off to “create a story” as strangers. At first, I believed this book was a bunch of “bollocks” and the two characters were using each other as temporary rebounds to escape the reality of their recent breakups, so fresh that the mere mention of their exes’ names brought tears to their eyes. But later I realized that when the characteristics of their exes were still fresh in their minds, they were able to pick out how different both of them were from them. I wasn’t completely invested in this story because it was so short, but Rider still wrote a wonderful book! I rate this book 2/5 stars and recommend it to ages 11+. @ilovefood of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
