Field of Bones

a Brady Novel of Suspense

I am a huge fan of J. A. Jance and I enjoy the stories of the Joanna Brady series, but Joanna Brady is my least favorite main character created by Jance. She is just so emotionless. She tries so hard to be professional, to live up to her late father and her late husband she has lost all sense of emotion. Even in regard to her young son and newborn daughter, she seems to think of them and love them from a great distance, which is rather ironic because since Joanna Brady novel #1 that's EXACTLY of what Joanna thought about her mother toward her. That said, 'Field of Bones' brought me to or near tears several times. Of course, not by Joanna Brady and the way she equally handles all aspect of her life distressingly clinically, but by a compelling victim who drew us in and allowed us to feel every moment of her emotions. 4 stars, but hey, Joanna, lighten up ... or at least have some kind of breakdown to become interesting rather than clinically detached and aloof.
