Of course it is dated as it was released in 1967, half a century ago: a Western of old frontier in times of oppressed Native Americans, self-righteous bigots, gunslingers, Mexican bandits, Stagecoach ride and Paul Newman at his prime: Hud 1963, Harper 1966, Cool Hand Luke 1967, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid 1969 ... They don't make "dated" films like the Hombre anymore. Besides the tense slow-burn action drama, marvelous acting and human ethics in different social settings, nice to see those bygone 1960's picturesque locations on HD DVD. Looks like it is time to hit the Elmore 1961 book to see what the film had missed.
