A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is a heartwarming classic novel that is always a good read, no matter the time of year. Written in a style that goes between fast-paced rhetoric and slower prose, it manages to give the reader both entertainment as well as lessons to be learned about one's character and actions. Ebenezer Scrooge, the selfish and saturnine accountant in this story, has encounters with the ghosts of Christmas past, Christmas present, and Christmas future. As he comes to terms with the reality of what will happen to him if he continues down his life’s path, he is given one more chance to make amends and discover what Christmas means to him. I would recommend this book for any reader of any age. Although it's written in Old English, it's still easy reading at the right length for one session.
