This movie would be more satisfying if Wilder could have kept the original ending. On wicked Broadway, Richard Sherman slept with The Girl, but that wasn't possible in Hollywood in those days. In fact, this is a movie ripe for a remake, now that they could use the adulterous ending. Tom Ewell reprises his Broadway role, and it is to laugh at the commenters who object to his playing Sherman as a creep. If he were a moral, upstanding straight arrow, would he be thinking about sleeping with the girl upstairs? Focus, people! Not everybody in a movie is supposed to be your perfect hero. The supporting cast is excellent, with Sonny Tufts first among equals including Victor Moore, Robert Strauss, and Doro Merande. Still worth seeing, and don't forget, "Rachmaninoff--the Second Piano Concerto!"
