Norwegian murder mystery. I was a bit confused because in the first scene everyone is speaking English. Aksul (the main character) has relocated to Malaysia. He has a wife and son there but negotiates a deal with a Chinese company to buy out a small biotech Norwegian company in his childhood home. He is a bit reluctant to return to Norway because twenty years ago he was accused of murdering his high school sweetheart, but he was eventually acquitted of the crime. The Chinese demand he go to Norway to broker the deal, so he returns to a hostile environment. The mother of the murdered girl is convinced/obsessed that he committed the crime (she is part owner of the company he is buying out). His Malaysian family doesn’t know of his crime/acquittal and just about everyone in his small hometown works for the company he is trying to buy out. Everyone in Norway knows his story and being such a small town many of them are childhood friends or former lovers, so it is a bit of a boiling pot/environment he returns to. The season one is ten episodes and by about number six you are ready for a resolution. There is a season two available on DVD available at SPL and I was hoping the same murder/mystery did not drag into season two. Season one is resolved by episode ten, so don’t give up on the series. The small town is a beautiful setting in Norway, so the scenery is lovely but there is an eerie ambiance to the murder story and how it naturally (and in some cases unnaturally) deeply affected the local inhabitants.
