An impacting movie in a dark and morose way, full of debauchery, good beginning, exciting and face paced. Great historical scenes of old time oil derricks and how they operated. The character, Daniel is hard working but SO intense and not very likable. My take on Eli: You probably know personalities whose diplomacy seems contrived, so much so it makes you cringe, because you just know they are thinking or feeling something else but hiding it behind soft spoken words- that's Eli. Paul Dano did a good job there. The character, Daniel, is just the opposite- he is so blunt and forthright. I respected his unyielding demeanor-remaining true to himself despite the fact he was cold hearted and calculating, seemed like a sociopath; dealt harshly with betrayal. Daniel Day-Lewis did such a great job acting the part. The end is a reasonable conclusion and I was jazzed that I predicted something like that would happen. His grown son looked like the baby in the basket. Daniel's last words were absolutely right and I've got a good idea what happens to him after that, but it's a guess. I'll remember this one.
